3. Find out the keyword measures or stats

Keyword Competition

Keyword Competition is the measure of ranking criteria for a keyword. For example, the Keyword Competition is represented by a number, from 1 to 100. The more a keyword has a high number, the more it is difficult to rank for on the search engines.

You can find KC with tools such as KW Finder, Long Tail Pro, and Key Search. To proceed and compile a list of Keywords for targeting, finding Keyword Competition has an important role.

You can also find the KC by using the Moz KC Finder. Moz Keyword Explorer also provides a Chrome Extension, helping you see facts that contribute to KC.

Backlink Profile of the Competitors

Backlink Profile of a page or website shows its authority and brand presence for a Seed Keyword. To proceed and finalize a Keyword List, you need to analyze the Backlink Profile of competitors ranking for the Seed Keywords.

To get started, you can use the free Backlink Checking Tools. The more a site has links from credible sources, the more efforts are required to rank for such keywords, and hence you are likely to skip such keywords from the list.

keyword research process

In this case, you need to pick keywords that are easy to target. The keywords that show the ranked sites having minimum backlinks are easy targets.

Search Volume

For a Keyword, Search Volume shows the number of searches per month. If a keyword gets a high number of search volume per month, it means a large number of users search for that keyword.

You need to find keywords having a low search volume per month. You can consider them less important in the eyes of users and search engines, but ranking for such keywords is better at the start.

Let’s proceed and use the Google Keyword Planner to find the search volume. It also helps you enter a list of keywords to find the search volume as a whole. Alternatively, use Uber Suggest to see the Search Volume data for the keywords.

Page Level Authority

Page Level Authority is referred to as a Page’s Trust, Relevancy, and Link Count. It is represented by a number, meaning that the more a page has a high Page Authority, the more the page has value in the eyes of Search Engines.

The Moz Bar shows Page Authority data for the pages. You can install the Moz Chrome Extension, and see the PA matrices for the Google Search Results.

keyword research process

Comparatively, the ranked pages on Google have a high Page Authority. Google considers PA for ranking purposes, and you should consider too. Before you proceed, make sure you choose the keywords having ranked pages with low Page Authority.

Use Tools such as KW Finder

To help you manage your work, and find the Keyword Matrices with ease, you can use tools such as KW Finder. It helps you find Keyword Matrices for the keywords, including Keyword Competition, Page Authority, and Search Volume data.

You can also find out the Keyword Measures manually. For example, to find Search Volume, you can use the Uber Suggest; on the other hand, Moz Explorer helps you find the Domain Authority and Backlinks.

Make sure to consider KW Finder’s suggestions for the keywords. The tool shows the Keyword Competition score for the keywords and helps you decide on the keywords having a higher chance of success for your business.

4. Recompile and prioritize the keywords

Choose the Keywords with Low Competition

After you finish finding out Seed Keywords, expanding the list, and finding the Keyword measures; you need to proceed to the final step that consists of prioritizing the compiled keywords.

Choose the keywords that hold favorable matrices for your SEO, such as Low Keyword Competition, Average Search Volume, and Low Page Authority with fewer Backlinks.

keyword research process

We discussed finding out the said factors. You can use the Uber Suggest, Long Tail Pro or the KW Finder for the purpose. Also, using the Moz Toolbar helps you see the Domain Authority of a page that refers to Trust and Relevancy by Domain level.

Search Low Competition Keywords on Google and Analyze the Ranked websites

Low Competitive Keywords alone can’t define your next move. Instead, you need to obtain some measures from Google.

When you search the Low Competitive Keywords on Google, your next move is going for the search results that have poor backlink profile and Low Page Authority.

Carefully analyze the top 10 Google results for all of your Low Competitive Keywords. Once you land on the pages, pay attention to Word Count, URL of the page, Title, Description, and On-Page SEO factors.

keyword research process

Make a list of Easy Targets

After going through the Google search results for the Low Competitive Keywords, focus on selecting the easy targets.

By easy targets, I mean to choose the keywords that have a Low Word Count on the ranked WebPages, a small number of backlinks, Low Page Authority, and weak On-Page SEO stats.

Once you prioritize the keyword list, you can go for the next step, the On-Page SEO. While we discussed the On-Page SEO above, the next step is dealing with the On-Page SEO, as it defines the ultimate position of a page on Search Engines.

Analyze the On-Page SEO of Easy Targets

By analyzing the On-Page SEO of the prioritized keyword list, we can ensure the facts that need improvement. For example, Word Count and Keyword Density.

Moreover, On-Page SEO contains ALT Tags for images, SEO optimized Title Tags, Description, Hyperlinks, Anchor Texts, and Page Speed.

Finally, you can give a try to tools that check your On-Page SEO factors, and provide relevant and actionable suggestions to improve the quality of your content. One such tools are Site Checker that provides real facts that need improvement on your website.

Create SEO optimized Content
